Open role

Senior Forward Deployed Engineer, AI

RemoteFull-timeAI-native. Full ownership.

Zaigo builds AI software for real businesses.

Not demos. Not slide decks. Actual tools that people use to run parts of their company.

Our clients are owner-led, mid-market and PE-backed companies in the US: professional services firms, distributors, manufacturers, healthcare operators, finance teams. They have messy workflows, old systems, weird data, and very little patience for theory. We figure out what should exist, then we build it inside their world.

We are based in New York, with engineering teams in Eastern Europe and Latin America, and we are growing fast.

We are looking for senior forward deployed engineers who already build heavily with AI. Someone who can take a vague client problem, turn it into a plan, build the thing, ship it into the client's real environment, and keep moving.

If you need perfect specs, this probably is not the job. If you like owning the whole problem and moving faster than normal teams think is reasonable, it might be.

What the work looks like

You will own the build end to end. You work closely with a US-based Engagement Lead or Principal who owns the client relationship and runs the account. You also work directly with the founders.

You will often be the one presenting the work to the client, because you know it best. You demo what you built to the client's team and their executives, walk them through what you did and why, and handle their questions live.

That means you may demo the latest version to a client in the morning, sort out environments and access with their IT team after lunch, and ship the next usable version that week. The work is production engineering inside someone else's company: their APIs, their data, their cloud, their identity and security rules, their people. Database, backend, UI, auth, integrations, AI agents, evals, error handling, deployment, and the judgment to know what should not be handled by a model.

Recent projects include:

  • 01a document review tool that checks presentations against a firm's brand and compliance rules
  • 02a benchmarking platform built from years of public company filings
  • 03payroll and operations tools that clean messy data and produce files people can actually use
  • 04internal AI agents that help teams move faster without giving the model dangerous autonomy

You do not need to be an ML researcher. You do need to be a very strong engineer who knows how to use AI tools to ship better and faster.

Who we are looking for

  • 015+ years building production software, with real ownership.
  • 02You ship across the stack.
  • 03You build with AI every day. Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, agents, worktrees, parallel terminals, your own setup. We care less about the exact tools and more about whether you have real opinions from using them, including how you check what they produce.
  • 04Enterprise fluency, on any stack. You are comfortable on client calls and work directly with the client's IT team on environments, access, identity and security: Azure, AWS or GCP; Entra or Okta; Fabric, Snowflake or Databricks; their security review. You learn the client's stack fast.
  • 05A strong presenter. Clear, confident spoken English. You are comfortable in front of client executives, demoing your work and answering questions on the spot.
  • 06Excellent written English and strong async habits. Clear written updates, risks flagged early, and you unblock yourself.
  • 07Solid overlap with US Eastern time, because our clients are in the US.
  • 08You think like a product owner, and you have taste. There is no reason to ship ugly software anymore.
  • 09You juggle several projects and take initiative without being asked.
  • 10Bonus points if you have founded something, freelanced, run a small agency, built your own product, or worked directly with clients.

Who should not apply

This is probably not the right role if you want a narrow lane, a long roadmap, and fully written tickets.

It is also probably not right if your AI experience is mostly prompting ChatGPT, building toy demos, or talking about agents without shipping production software.

We need builders. Smart, fast, practical builders.

Pay and location

  • 01We are profitable and bootstrapped, so pay is a strong base salary plus real performance bonuses tied to targets.
  • 02Remote: Eastern Europe or Latin America, with solid overlap with US Eastern time.
  • 03Full-time.
