Open role

Director of Business Development, Private Equity

RemoteFull-timeAI-native. Full ownership.

Zaigo builds AI software for real businesses.

Not demos. Not slide decks. Actual tools that people use to run parts of their company.

Our clients are private equity firms and the US companies they own: professional services firms, distributors, manufacturers, healthcare operators, finance teams. They have messy workflows, old systems, weird data, and very little patience for theory. We build the AI roadmap with them, then we build the whole thing.

We are based in New York, with engineering teams in Eastern Europe and Latin America, and we are growing fast.

We are looking for a Director of Business Development, Private Equity. A senior hunter with a real network in private equity who gets us the first meeting.

You find the PE firms and portfolio companies that need us, get in the room, and set up the first call. From there one of our partners or Principals sells, scopes and builds the prototype.

If you need inbound leads or a big marketing machine, this probably is not the job. If you like asking for the intro, picking up the phone, and creating meetings from nothing, it might be.

What the work looks like

You own new business. A normal week might include coffee with a PE operating partner, a few intros from people you have helped before, cold notes that actually get answered, and an event where you walk out with two first calls on the calendar.

On those calls you talk credibly about what AI can do for a portfolio company: where it saves time and money, what it takes to get live, and what a sensible first project looks like. Then Pete or a Principal takes the lead on the sale. You stay close, keep the deal moving, and go find the next one.

You work directly with Kyle and Pete.

Recent projects include:

  • 01a document review tool that checks presentations against a firm's brand and compliance rules
  • 02a benchmarking platform built from years of public company filings
  • 03payroll and operations tools that clean messy data and produce files people can actually use
  • 04internal AI agents that help teams move faster without giving the model dangerous autonomy

You do not need to build anything. You do need to understand the work well enough that a CEO takes you seriously.

Who we are looking for

  • 01A hunter. Confident, persistent and unafraid. You ask anyone for an intro, and you follow up until you get the call.
  • 02A track record of creating meetings and deals from nothing, not just closing what marketing handed you.
  • 03A real network in private equity. Operating partners, portfolio CEOs and deal teams pick up when you call.
  • 04Presence. You are comfortable across the table from a CEO or a PE partner.
  • 05Credible on AI. You use the tools yourself and can talk about AI like someone who has seen it work, without pretending to be an engineer.
  • 06Bonus points if you have run business development or partnerships at a consultancy, agency or services firm, or if you are a visible operator with posts, events or a community people follow.

Who should not apply

This is not an SDR role. It is probably not right if you need inbound leads, a big marketing machine, or a sequencing tool to do the work.

It is also probably not right if you have only sold a product off a playbook someone else wrote.

We need someone who creates the first meeting.

Pay and location

  • 01We are profitable and bootstrapped, so pay is a strong base salary plus commission and real performance bonuses.
  • 02NYC or the Northeast preferred.
  • 03This role requires authorization to work in the US. We're not able to sponsor visas.
  • 04Full-time.
